What is underpinning
Underpinning is the process of strengthening and stabilizing the foundation of an existing building or other structure.
Pro-pin also provides re-stumping services.
Re-stumping - also known as re-blocking is the process whereby timber stumps that support a house are replaced due to them being rotted and defective.
When is underpinning needed?
Underpinning is commonly required for:
- Foundation failure
- 2nd storey extensions on a single storey dwelling
- Swimming pools
- Other types of excavation that require adjacent structures to be supported
What are the signs that I need underpinning?
Common signs that your home may need underpinning:
- Cracking in brickwork and/or plaster
- Gaps between brickwork and plaster
- Gaps around windows and door frames
- Uneven floors
- Cracks in concrete slabs
- Difficulty opening and closing doors and windows
What is the process and how long will it take?
Step 1 - Site inspection by one of our experienced team members who will then provide you with a quote.
Step 2 - Once you have accepted the quote we arrange a soil test.
Step 3 - Next we contact our engineers to provide computations and design.
Step 4 - Then we organise a building permit.
Step 5 - Work can commence within 2-4 weeks of you accepting the quote subject to building permit approval.
